Lasagne

A traditional Italian meal, most kids love this.

Preparation time is less than 30 minutes, cooking time another 30-45 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg of lean minced beef
  • 800g of tomato frito
  • 400g of sliced mushrooms
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 2 cloves Garlic chopped finely
  • Italian Herbs
  • 20-30 slices of lasagne pasta
  • 500ml of béchamel sauce

Serving suggestions:

  • Serve with a crisp green salad.
  • Add a plate of Warm bread or Garlic bread to the feast.

Method:

If using dried lasagne, soak in cold water in a large bowl. (follow instructions on the packet, some require only 30 minutes some as long as an hour. If the pasta is hard when used it will make the lasagne rather chewy.

Brown  the beef in a large frying pan, then drain off the excess fat (this stops the meal repeating on you for several hours afterwards)

Add the tomato frito, mushrooms, stock cubes and chopped garlic and stir well. Leave to simmer for about 20 minutes until the Pasta is ready.

Drain the pasta.

Place a thin layer of the beef mixture to the bottom of an oven proof dish about 20cm by 30cm. cover with a layer of lasagne, repeat until you are about 1cm from the top of the dish, and finish with a layer of pasta.

Pour the béchamel sauce over the pasta so that it makes a seal against the edge of the dish all the way around.

Cook in the oven (170C) for 30-45 minutes until the top has browned but not burned.

Serve.
